Tickets Refunds |
What to do if you longer need your ticket. Your rights and obligations.

Whether you can refund your ticket depends on the type of ticket you have already purchased, and the circumstances of needing a refund.
Refunds to most tickets can be made at the National Rail ticket office you purchased your ticket from before you travel. Alternatively, you can call the telesales outlet or visit the online retailer that you bought your ticket from.
Ticket Types
Advance Tickets |
Changing Advance Tickets Changes to time or date of travel must be arranged before departure of the first reserved train printed on the ticket, after which the ticket has no value and a new one must be purchased. If there are still other Advance fares available, you can change it to another Advance fare. You will be charged an admin fee of £10 per ticket. If there are no Advance fares available, you can upgrade the ticket to the most appropriate ticket for the journey you now want to make. You will have to pay any difference in fare and an admin fee of £10 per ticket. Please note that changes to 'Advance' fares cannot be made on-board the train. If you board a train without a ticket and reservation for that service, a new ticket must be purchased. |

Changing Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets These tickets don't require you to travel on a specific train, but they do have restrictions on the time you can travel. If you need to change this date, you will need to cancel your ticket (see below) and buy a new ticket. Super Off-Peak Day Single, Super Off-Peak Single and the outward part of Super Off-Peak Return and Super Off-Peak Day Return tickets are only valid on the date shown on the ticket. If you need to change this date, you will need to cancel your ticket and buy a new ticket. There is no admin fee to do so. |
